Harmony in Law and Music: Sylvain Pont’s Inspiring Vision

Experienced lawyer and passionate about his profession, Sylvain Pont is a caring Christian dedicated to fighting prejudice. He loves to advocate for just causes, but he also enjoys “singing his life.” Performing under the stage name “SylEvan,” he shares with us his brand-new double album and his unique perspective on human existence.

You lead a unique life, balancing a career in law with music and spirituality. How do you manage these diverse interests?

An oriental sage once said, “Work is love made visible.” This is sometimes true but obviously human beings cannot be reduced to their job! It is therefore essential on a daily basis to harmonise the arrangements of our personal and professional lives so that each hour that passes leaves as much as possible an infinitely precious mark in our memories…

How does your Christian faith influence your approach to practicing law?

The lawyer by definition is the one who speaks for his client. And by vocation, he invites judges and litigants to a little more humanity than usual. On this level, my faith encourages me to seek what is right for each individual, willingly recognizing the complexity and subjectivity of this notion. Whether I plead in France, in Geneva or in Monaco, I strive in any case to remain faithful to these ethical principles.

You compared justice to faith in a recent interview in Monaco. Could you elaborate on that metaphor?

As part of a report on the theme “Justice and Faith” (available on www.sylvainpontavocat.com) I was interviewed in a courtroom of the Monaco courthouse where there is a huge crucifix at the above the judges’ desk. On this occasion, I was led to make an analogy between justice and music. Just as a musician tunes his instrument to produce the perfect note, the lawyer, too, adapts his legal score and seeks the right positioning. Despite the dissonance that can occur in law, we aim to create harmony in the larger context of justice.

Your new double album, released in January 2024, explores themes of justice and faith. Could you tell us more about how these themes are reflected in your music, for example in your song “If you love justice..”?

I like to make my life sing through songs and make it dance under the stars …I perceive my two albums as fragments of the same dream, woven by the sacred fabric of the heart. In the epic of my album “If you love”, I offer a vibrant quest for justice. But I also celebrate absolute love, the one that confronts us with our existential choices (“Love or die…”), the love temporarily lost following the mourning of a loved one called back to God (“Gone too soon”), “Oxygen love” which is dreamed of from its incarnation on earth (“The Child of the Stars”), and love finally shared in a symphony of happiness and passion (“Thank you”, “Your infinity” , “I Missed You So Much” and “I Sing Our Story”). In the musical odyssey “A bridge to infinity”, I explore spiritual lands, new celestial horizons where echoes of the divine resonate, with songs like “I offer you my heart”, “The Jesus affair” or “Mary’s plea”. Because as the poet teaches: “We will have lived if we have loved”. Thus, in my songs, I offer a heart-to-heart sharing and a soul-to-soul communion, inviting everyone to believe again and to walk the path leading to this “Bridge to infinity”…

What message would you like to share through your work in law, music, and spirituality?

At the start of 2024, a little phrase crossed my path: “Wherever you go, go with your heart”… Beyond the torments or our multiple commitments, professional or personal, we move forward, like pilgrims in search of humanist and spiritual values. So, my message today simply wants to echo resilience, the joy of living, and positive action. No matter our respective destinies, we carry within us this singular light and we bring a real “added value”. Whether through law, faith, music, or any other form of human expression, everything suggests that we can all contribute to creating a more harmonious and luminous world…
