Monaco Statistics Publishes Its Findings On Public Housing and Future Needs for 2040
Monaco Statistics has recently published the findings of its study on public housing and the needs of Monaco’s citizens after submitting it to the Prince’s Government and presenting it to the National Council. The study provides figures on public housing and estimates future needs based on trends in the city’s population and the current and planned stock of housing. It follows similar studies that were previously conducted in 2012 and 2017 at the request of Monaco’s government.
The statistical data for this study was taken from the State Property Authority, the Housing Department, the Department of Forward Studies, Urban Planning and Mobility and Monaco City Hall, as well as from the 2016 population census. Population data for Monaco’s citizens was predicted using the components method where a projection is made age by age, year by year. Births, naturalisations by Sovereign Ordinance, acquisitions of nationality by marriage are added and deaths are subtracted. This projection takes into account the recent change to the Act of Nationality Acquisition, according to which a spouse who married in July 2022 or later must wait 20 years instead of the previous 10 before acquiring Monegasque citizenship by marriage. Based on these calculations it was predicted that by 2040 the population of Monaco will reach 10660, increasing by nearly 1000 more people in the span of 18 years.

The public housing stock is planning to accommodate 78% of the population in Monaco by 2040, above the goal of 75% that was initially set out with 183 more units than expected. The intended stock includes planned deliveries from 2023 to 2027 and projects planned as part of the National Housing Plan for Monegasques (PNLM) from 2028 to 2033.
