Monaco Tourism Hits Record High with 6.7 Million Visits and €1.4 Billion in Visitor Spending

Monaco welcomed nearly 6.7 million visitors in 2025, generating close to €1.4 billion in direct tourism spending, according to the latest tourism survey published jointly by Monaco Statistics (IMSEE) and the Monaco Government Tourist and Convention Authority (DTC).

Based on interviews with more than 17,000 visitors conducted between January 2025 and January 2026, the comprehensive study highlights tourism’s growing contribution to the Principality’s economy while underlining the importance of attracting high-value international visitors.

Monaco’s Global Appeal Continues to Grow

The survey confirms Monaco’s enduring appeal as one of Europe’s leading luxury destinations, recording almost 6.7 million visits throughout 2025.

The vast majority of visitors (92.5%) were day-trippers exploring the Principality without staying overnight, while 7.5% chose to stay at least one night. Although overnight visitors represent a relatively small share of total arrivals, they deliver the greatest economic impact.

Overall, visitors spent 9.3 million days in Monaco, including more than 1.4 million overnight stays. Tourists remained in the Principality for an average of 3.8 days, compared with 1.2 days for same-day visitors, with hotels continuing to be the preferred accommodation choice, accounting for more than 70% of overnight stays.

An International and Loyal Visitor Base

France remains Monaco’s largest neighbouring market, accounting for almost half of all visits. However, overnight tourism reflects the Principality’s increasingly international appeal.

Visitors from outside the European Union represented 42% of all overnight tourists, reinforcing Monaco’s position as a global luxury destination.

Couples accounted for the largest share of visitors (37%), followed closely by families (32.7%). Leisure travel overwhelmingly dominated, with nearly 95% of visits made for holidays or recreational purposes.

Cars and rental vehicles remained the most common means of reaching Monaco (42.6%), followed by rail (33.3%). Once in the Principality, overnight visitors most frequently used taxis to travel locally.

Tourism Generates Nearly €1.4 Billion for Monaco

The report also highlights tourism’s significant economic contribution.

On average, same-day visitors spent €76 per day, while overnight tourists spent €348 per day. When the average length of stay is factored in, total expenditure reached €85 per visit for day visitors and €1,670 per trip for overnight guests.

Visitors from the Middle East recorded the highest daily spending, exceeding €1,000 per person during their stay.

Overall, direct visitor expenditure in 2025 was estimated at almost €1.4 billion, representing 6.8% of the total revenue generated by businesses in Monaco, excluding the financial and insurance sectors.

Overnight Visitors Deliver the Greatest Economic Value

While overnight tourists accounted for just 7.5% of total visits, they generated an impressive 61.4% of the tourism sector’s economic value.

The findings reinforce Monaco’s strategy of attracting visitors who stay longer and contribute more significantly to the local economy, while continuing to welcome the substantial volume of regional day visitors.

“Our ambition is not simply to welcome more visitors, but to attract more tourists who create significant added value for Monaco’s economy,” said Guy Antognelli, Director of the Monaco Government Tourist and Convention Authority. “Everything the Tourist and Convention Authority does is designed to support sustainable, high-quality tourism growth.”

The latest survey confirms that Monaco continues to successfully combine international attractiveness, premium hospitality and strong economic performance—further strengthening its position as one of the world’s leading luxury tourism destinations.
