Strategic Support from the Prince’s Government of Monaco for the Paris 2024 Olympics

As the Paris 2024 Olympic Games take center stage from July 26th to August 11th, the Digital Platforms and Resources Department (DPRN) of Monaco , a key division within the Interministerial Delegation for Digital Transition, has taken on a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth management and control of the radio frequency spectrum at Olympic venues across France. This collaboration with the Agence Nationale des Fréquences underscores the strategic importance of effective spectrum management during large-scale international events.

Frédéric Rué and Hubert Phan, two distinguished members of the DPRN, have been assigned to the Test & Tagging office at the Allianz Riviera Stadium in Nice, one of the prominent locations for the world’s most anticipated sporting event. Their expertise and commitment are vital to the successful execution of the complex tasks associated with spectrum management.

A Major Logistical Challenge

Managing the radio frequency spectrum is no small feat, especially during events of this magnitude. The frequencies in use are essential to the seamless operation of various stakeholders, including event organizers, security personnel, and media outlets. The DPRN’s involvement is particularly crucial, given their extensive experience in overseeing similar operations for the Principality’s most prestigious events. These include the Monaco Grand Prix, the Monte Carlo Rally, the Monaco Yacht Show, and more recently, the final stage of the Tour de France.

The DPRN’s responsibilities during these events are comprehensive. They involve controlling all radio equipment, verifying wireless devices, and ensuring that the allocated frequencies are available and functioning in real-time. This covers a wide range of applications, from on-board cameras and walkie-talkie communications to the radios used by security vehicles and the live footage filmed on location.

Year-Round Spectrum Management

The DPRN’s expertise extends beyond high-profile events. Throughout the year, the department plans and coordinates frequencies for a variety of third parties, including both public and private stakeholders. Their work encompasses a diverse array of applications, such as managing frequencies for Monegasque-flagged boats and aircraft, building managers, Monegasque DTT and DTTN services, FM radio stations, and mobile phone operators.
