Venice 2024: A Celebration of Cinema, Elegance, and Global Impact at the Film Festival and amfAR Gala

The 81st Venice International Film Festival took place from August 28 to September 7, 2024, on Lido di Venezia. Renowned filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar’s English-language debut, “The Room Next Door,” starring Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore, won the prestigious Golden Lion award. The film, addressing themes of euthanasia and climate change, received an 18-minute standing ovation at its premiere.

In conjunction with the festival, amfAR hosted its annual charity gala on September 1, 2024, at Hangar Nicelli in Lido di Venezia. The event honored actor and humanitarian Richard Gere with the Award of Inspiration, and actor Antonio Banderas received the Global Impact Award. The evening featured performances by Kelly Rowland and Rumer Willis, who performed The Jackson Five’s “I Want You Back.” The gala was attended by numerous celebrities, including Eva Longoria, Kate Beckinsale, and Zhang Ziyi, all supporting amfAR’s mission to advance AIDS research.
