Monaco to Host the 3rd Ocean Space Forum: Advancing Space Solutions for Ocean Protection
The Prince’s Government of Monaco, in partnership with the French National Centre for Space Studies (CNES) and Prométhée Earth Intelligence, will host the 3rd Ocean Space Forum on Thursday, 2 July 2026, at the Rainier III Auditorium under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.
Organised by the Monaco Office for Outer Space Affairs (Bureau des Affaires Spatiales – BAS), the Forum highlights the Principality’s growing commitment to harnessing space technologies in support of ocean conservation, climate resilience and sustainable development.
Addressing Global Challenges Through Space Innovation
As climate change continues to reshape the world’s oceans, satellite technologies and space-based services have become indispensable tools for monitoring marine ecosystems, strengthening maritime governance and supporting environmental action.
Bringing together policymakers, international organisations, scientists, researchers, industry leaders and innovators from across the globe, the Ocean Space Forum has established itself as a leading platform for dialogue on the intersection of space, climate and ocean governance.
Throughout the day, participants will explore how Earth observation, satellite data, maritime surveillance systems and emerging space technologies can contribute to a deeper understanding of ocean health, improve the protection of marine biodiversity, support the decarbonisation of maritime activities and enhance the resilience of coastal and island communities.
Supporting the Space4Ocean Alliance
The 2026 edition takes place in the wake of the launch of the Space4Ocean (S4O) Alliance, an international initiative officially unveiled during the Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) in Nice in June 2025.
As a founding member of the Alliance, the Prince’s Government of Monaco continues to promote stronger international cooperation between governments, scientific institutions, international organisations and the space sector to accelerate the deployment of space-based solutions for ocean protection.
The Forum will provide an important opportunity to build on this momentum, encourage new partnerships and showcase practical and operational applications that can support global ocean governance.
An International Gathering of Leading Institutions
Reflecting its international dimension, the Forum will welcome representatives from major global organisations, including the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
The event will also bring together leading space agencies, including the European Space Agency (ESA), the French National Centre for Space Studies (CNES), the Italian Space Agency (ASI), the Maldives Space Research Organisation and the Senegalese Space Studies Agency.
Academic and scientific expertise will be represented by institutions such as the Institute for Peace and Development of Université Côte d’Azur and the Université de Bretagne Occidentale, alongside innovative companies including Prométhée Earth Intelligence, ACRI-ST, Orbital EOS, Telespazio, Grogenics and Astrolabes Conseil.
Representatives of the French Government, ACCOBAMS, the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) and Eurisy will further reinforce the Forum’s role as a key meeting point for European and Mediterranean cooperation in the fields of space, climate and environmental policy.
Three Strategic Themes
The programme will be organised around three major themes:
- Climate change and its impact on the ocean, with discussions on climate resilience, maritime emissions and adaptation strategies;
- Ocean governance and the rule of law, focusing on maritime surveillance, international legal frameworks and marine conservation;
- Emerging technologies and innovation, highlighting disruptive space and ocean technologies, international cooperation and improved access to environmental data.
In addition to the conference programme, participants will have access to networking sessions, an exhibition space dedicated to the space sector and a public exhibition exploring the relationship between space and the ocean, organised with the support of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, Monaco City Hall and the Côte d’Azur Observatory.
All sessions will be held in English.
