Women’s Football: Monaco United Make History with Derby Victory in French Cup
Monaco United continued their impressive start to the season with a commanding 3–0 victory over ASMFF, securing their place in the next round of the French Cup and becoming the Principality’s sole remaining representative in the competition.
Monaco United have reached another milestone in their sporting journey. In a highly anticipated women’s football derby at the Stade Didier-Deschamps in Cap-d’Ail, the team secured a decisive 3–0 victory over local rivals ASMFF in the fourth regional round of the French Cup.
The result marks Monaco United’s second derby triumph of the season, following their victory in the first-ever Monégasque women’s football derby last month. More importantly, it keeps their French Cup ambitions alive as the club advances towards the national stages of the competition.
A Derby Filled with Determination
Played in front of a capacity crowd, the encounter brought together two teams enjoying strong starts to their respective seasons.
Monaco United established their attacking intentions early, demonstrating technical quality, discipline and composure against a physically demanding opponent. Despite creating several opportunities, particularly through Fiona Brandazzi, the team struggled to find a breakthrough in the opening half.
Goalkeeper Pauline Moitrel also played a crucial role, producing an important save shortly before the interval to maintain the goalless scoreline.
The teams entered half-time level at 0–0, setting the stage for a decisive second half.
Mila Drion Leads Monaco United to Victory
Monaco United returned to the pitch with renewed intensity, taking greater control of possession and increasing their attacking pressure.
The breakthrough came through substitute Mila Drion, who finished an impressive collective move to give Monaco United the lead.
With 15 minutes remaining, Sara Lakhssassi doubled the advantage with a superb individual effort, beating her defender before delivering a powerful strike beyond the opposing goalkeeper.
As the match approached its conclusion, Drion struck again, completing her brace and sealing a convincing 3–0 victory.
Reflecting on the performance, Monaco United President Marco Simone praised the team’s collective spirit:
“Winning a derby is always special. But what makes me happiest is the way we did it: seeing a team play together with personality, courage and enjoyment.”
A Historic Step Forward for Monaco Women’s Football
Beyond the result, the victory represents another important achievement for Monaco United and the continued development of women’s football in the Principality.
With two derby victories already secured this season, the club has demonstrated its growing ambitions and competitive strength.
Monaco United now stand as the only team representing the Principality of Monaco in the remaining stages of the French Cup, with the possibility of facing higher-division opponents as the competition progresses.
Assistant coach Alexandre Gallet highlighted the significance of the achievement:
“Round after round, we are making history at Monaco United without setting ourselves any limits. That is also the magic of this competition!”
The victory also reflected the strength of the club’s collective approach. Despite being unable to participate in the week’s preparations while recovering, Marco Simone followed his team’s progress from a distance and praised the commitment of both players and coaching staff.
For Monaco United, the focus now turns to the next round of the French Cup. With the upcoming draw set to determine their next opponents, the club continues its campaign with confidence, ambition and a growing sense of momentum.
As Monaco’s women’s football scene continues to develop, Monaco United’s latest achievement adds another chapter to the Principality’s sporting story.
