Loulou Pirate: The New Life of Riviera’s Legend

Reviving the Legendary Loulou Pirate: A New Chapter in Riviera’s Iconic Life.

Loulou Pirate, situated between Monaco and Menton, has breathed new life into a mythical destination nestled alongside the rocky cliffs—the Pirate, where the essence of the summer lifestyle unfolds. Perched on the cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean Sea near Roquebrune-Cap Martin, this venue embodies both beauty and legend. Once frequented by luminaries of the 1960s and 1970s jet set, movie stars, and seekers of a relaxed yet thrilling ambiance, it was led by Charles Albert Viale, fondly known as “The Pirate.”

Flowing dresses and swimwear, delectable dishes like imperial crayfish and grilled sea bass with dill, and the aromatic châteaubriand cooked over a wood fire set the enchanting tone. James Bond, Brigitte Bardot, Frank Sinatra, Gina Lollobrigida, and vacationing princesses on the Riviera all marveled at this humble fishing spot turned glamorous haunt.

Facing the sea, the Pirate emerges like a scene from a Dolce Vita-era film, blending romance and carefree merriment seamlessly—be it indulging in exquisite cuisine, dancing barefoot, or simply unwinding. In daylight, the ambience enchants with driftwood accents, framing reminiscent of a ship’s deck, and a towering umbrella pine resembling a mast ready for adventure.
