Monaco Opens Its Doors to French Mobile Customers
Starting from March 5, 2024, French mobile customers can use the Monaco network easily across the entire country. Spearheaded by the Government of Monaco, in collaboration with French mobile network operators and the national operator Monaco Telecom, this initiative aims to standardize and enhance the quality of the mobile network experience throughout the country.
The transition for customers will occur automatically upon entering Monaco, as they will switch networks via data roaming. Instead of the usual French operator’s name, ‘Monaco Telecom’ will be prominently displayed at the top of their phone screens.
Similar to the ease of use experienced when traveling within other European countries, customers will now have the convenience of utilizing the local operator’s mobile phone network for making calls and connecting to the internet.
To seamlessly connect to the Monaco Telecom network, French mobile customers are advised to ensure that the following settings are configured upon arrival in the country:
- Activate mobile data and data roaming, ensuring ‘data abroad’ is selected. This is essential for accessing mobile internet services such as MMS, WhatsApp, and other applications.
- All calls to France should include the country code +33. Save numbers in this format to facilitate seamless communication.
- Opt for ‘automatic network selection,’ or manually select ‘Monaco Telecom’ if no network is displayed.
With the imminent roll-out, Christophe Pierre, Director of Digital Platforms and Resources at the Digital Transition Office, emphasized the necessity and advantages of this network integration. He stated, “Faced with the ongoing surge in mobile usage, coupled with high population density and limited frequency resources, the Government recognized the need for a harmonized mobile network. Supported by the French Government and made possible through collaboration with French mobile network operators and our national operator, this new service ensures a consistent quality of service and coverage for all customers of foreign mobile networks.”
